Born in Crowder, Oklahoma, on April 2, 1935, to Joe Adair Wynn and Eleanor Wynn, Joan’s early life was shaped by resilience. Her father was a sharecropper, and when the Great Dust Bowl swept across the plains, the family left Oklahoma shortly after she was born. They settled in Somerton, Arizona, where Joan grew up alongside her four sisters and her brother.
From the very beginning, Joan lived life with grit and determination. She never let obstacles stand in her way—whether facing the challenges of a difficult childhood, health issues later in life, or any number of the curveballs life threw her way. Her children were her pride and joy, and she considered them her greatest accomplishment.
Joan lived a full and varied life. She completed beautician school, became a certified nurse’s assistant, and even learned to fly—piloting solo on numerous occasions, though she never obtained her license. She had an adventurous spirit and an unwavering determination to keep moving forward, no matter what.
She is survived by her six children: Russell, John, Jan, Joe, James, and Jerry; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her four sisters, and her brother.
Joan’s strength, humor, and indomitable spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
