Joey Cosmillo was an amazing and special little boy. Joey nearly drowned in 2007 and remained severely handicapped thereafter. Doctors gave him little chance of survival and, after fighting to regain his life, he was given little time to live. Despite this grim prognosis, Joey was a little warrior and, against all odds, he fought to remain on this earth for five more years. He proved the doctors wrong again and again throughout his short life.
Despite Joey's many adversities, he lived life with a sense of joy and a humble enthusiam for the simple things. His greatest loves were art, music, and family. He loved Elmo and loved listening to his Elmo CD again and again. Joey loved when his little sister, Addison, would join him in his special bed to enjoy episodes of Elmo while holding his hand. Addison would laugh and Joey would brandish a glowing smile. He always smiled when he heard his mother's voice or felt her touch. He also laughed when he listened to his grandpa, Rich, sing his homespun, original, and often times, improvised songs about Grandpa's "little Joey". Joey's bright smile was contageous and he always brought with him a sweet spirit. Joey had a profound love for all those around him but especially responded with this perfect love when he was in the company of family. This love extended beyond family to include those professionals who cared for him. Despite his many communicative limitations, Joey could light up a room with his boyish glow and his beautiful eyes contained in them a divine wisdom and love inspired by the touch of God. Joey touched all those to whom he came in contact with. Joey was a strong and loving boy with a huge heart and a
kindred soul.
Joey's family loves him very much and he will be missed. Joey was planted on Earth, but he will bloom in Heaven. To those who knew him, Joey was truly a gift given to us by God. We know he will continue to live in our hearts and our love for him is eternal. We love you!
Joey was survived by his mother, Angela; his little sister, Addison Riley; his Grandmother, Maggie Cosmillo; and his Grandfather, Rich Cosmillo; Uncles, Chris Vazquez, Gary Muglach; Aunt, Jill Muglach; Cousin, Kevin Muglach,
Cailyn Muglach, Courtney Muglach and Kaylee Muglach.
The funeral for Joey Cosmillo will be held at Woodlawn Cemetary on Friday, June 1, 2012.
