Born April 8, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Jean & Carl Ramer. He was the first of four children and grew up in the Schenly Park area. Jon loved taking things apart and repairing them. He even repaired TVs in his apartment building for neighbors. He held many jobs including paper boy, door-to-door vegetable sales, and working in a local grocer as a youth. He would often skip school, but would spend his time in museums and libraries, so he was never caught. He excelled academically in high school and won a scholarship to Carnegie Institute of Technology from a local radio station on a team quiz show. He graduated Carnegie Tech on 5 June 1956 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Jon moved his mother and younger siblings to Baltimore in 1955. There he was hired by The Martin Company and moved to Kissimmee, Florida in 1957 to work at the new facility they were building.
In 1960, he met and married Dorothy Anderson. They were married in Tallahassee, Florida (where Dorothy was born) on July 16, 1960. They had their first home at 7219 Ravenna Ave in Orlando, Florida where they welcomed their first child, Joshua, followed by two daughters, Suzan and Gina. In 1972 they moved to a larger home at 8969 Farley St, near Windermere.
Sadly, Dorothy passed away in 1985. Jon worked for the Martin Company for 35 years and retired in 1992
He volunteered for several organizations in the area before joining the Martin Chorale. Here he meet long time friend Jeanette Leinbach and started singing at First Congregational Church in Winter Park. Reigniting his love of singing, he started classes at Rollins College, earning another bachelor's degree this time in vocal performance in 1999. He sang with the Bach Festival Choir for 15 years.
Known as Pop, he always made sure all the grandchildren could receive dance, music, or art lessons, leaving a legacy for generations to come.
He is survived by his three children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A visitation for Jon will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8450 Silver Star Rd, Orlando, FL 34761, followed by a celebration of life service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
