Karl Maximilian Ellzey, a loving father and husband, who lived most of his life in the Orlando area, passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2019 at the age of 48. Karl was a successful business entrepreneur who had a lifelong passion for helping others.
He is survived by his parents, his wife, Susan Williams-Ellzey, his nephew Gavin Boyer, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his special son, Hunter.
Karl was born on June 26th, 1970 in Orlando to Mike and Inga Ellzey. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1993 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and worked at Pratt & Whitney through the school's co-op program. However, he found that his calling was in medical technology, billing, and coding, an industry in which he became well known. He married Susan on January 10, 1998 and their son Hunter was born on May 1, 2000. Karl loved dogs, and their home was always full of the happiness provided by pugs and German Shepherds.
He was an avid tinkerer and had an excellent mechanical aptitude. Karl found passion in — and excelled at — the wide range of hobbies he undertook, including restoring automobiles, brewing beer, beekeeping, metal detecting, and playing the banjo. He was a brilliant cook and took much delight in replicating favorite recipes he discovered at restaurants, both in town and on his numerous travels. His homemade pizzas were legendary among his family and friends.
Karl was fortunate to extensively travel the world with his beloved wife, and they particularly loved ocean cruising to different international locales.
Karl was much loved and will be missed for his compassion, sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and creativity.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home & Memorial, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd., Gotha, FL 34734 on Saturday, January 26th, 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Hunter Ellzey Foundation 5703 Red Bug Lake Rd., Suite 324, Winter Springs, FL 32708.
