Louise Dorothy Robinson (also known as Mom) was born in the country of Cuba on March 18, 1925, to Julia Brissett and Harris McClarence. At the age of 4, Louise’s mother took her to Jamaica, West Indies, where she began her early education in the parish of Trelawny. Upon completing her education in Trelawny, Louise pursued higher education in the capital city of Kingston, where she even taught at the school she was attending. Later, Louise worked in corporate organizations as an Accountant.
In 1950, Louise met and married the love of her life, Gladstone Robinson, who predeceased her in 1992. They subsequently immigrated to the United States.
In New York City, Louise worked in corporate America as an Accountant. Once again, Louise sought further education by attending Baruch University, with a focus in Auditing. She joined the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance, where her responsibilities included supervising groups of auditors. Louise retired from the NYS Department of Taxation & Finance in 1984.
Louise’s many friends, relatives, and colleagues relied upon her for advice. Among the many words used to describe her are: candid, gracious, honest, and helpful.
Louise and Gladstone relocated to Orlando, Florida, in 1984. Not one to twiddle her thumbs, Louise attended real estate classes and earned her real estate license. That’s when Louise got busy calling everyone in New York to come on down to join her in Orlando.
Louise has been a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church from 1984 until her demise on June 25, 2015. She served in many capacities at St. Paul’s. She was an elder for many years, a choir member, served on various women’s groups, missions’ team, and many other ad hoc jobs. She was also a member of the Jamaican American Association of Central Florida.
Louise, everyone’s “Mom,” is survived by stepsons Renford Robinson (Claudette) and Godfrey Robinson; stepdaughters Sheryl Robinson and Beverly Robinson; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and godchildren. Also mourning her loss are several cousins in Jamaica, New York, and New Jersey. She will be sadly missed.
The family wishes to acknowledge its deep appreciation and sincere thanks for the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown to them during the passing of their loved one. May God richly bless you.
