Lucy Fay Russell Childs, 84, started her stroll in Heaven on June 26th, 2025. All that knew her knew she was first and foremost a child of God, but also knew she was an American patriot, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, traveler, and a dear friend.
Fay was born in Cherry Lake, Florida on June 27th,1940, to Delmar and Mila Maude (Keith) Russell. On May 2nd of 1959 she married Jacob Childs at Fleming Heights Assembly of God. They were blessed with 3 girls Wanda Suzanne, Karen Denise, and Christin Elizabeth. She received her GED in 1976 from the State of Florida. She received her Unit Secretary certificate in 1980 from Orange County Vocational School. Later in 1985 she received her Certified Nurses Aid certificate from the State of Florida. She continued working at Florida Hospital until 2002 when she retired after 22 years of service.
After retirement from Florida Hospital Fay hit the road in her Ford Coachman Catalina RV and traveled all over the Eastern United States while staying at campgrounds and visiting friends and family along the way. Her traveling brought her back to Jellystone RV Park in Clarcona where she later took up permanent residence. Later at Jellystone now called Clarcona Resort, she was involved in planning adult and children's activities like game night, dinners, and planning back to school and Christmas parties for the resident children.
Throughout her life she attended various churches where she was heavily involved with Sunday School, Childrens Church, Missionettes, Women's Ministry and sometimes being the secretary and treasurer. She loved attending gospel song services and hosting church fellowship functions.
She loved scrapbooking her travels, reading Beverly Lewis novels, doing crossword puzzles, watching her game shows, her stories, and could never turn down an Elvis movie. She loved spending time with her grandchildren camping or attending festivals at Silver Springs or the Strawberry Festival in Plant City. She made baking Christmas cookies a family tradition still carried on today, and you always knew at any holiday there was a good chance there would be a Red Velvet cake or Banana Pudding.
Fay will always be remembered for her love of dancing, any party, any music, any place, any time. She loved singing even though she would always tell us she “couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket” and we agreed. She was always willing to open her home to friends and family alike for any occasion and faithfully demonstrated the phrase “there is always room for one more”.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents Charlie Delmar and Mila Maude (Keith) Russell, siblings Cecil (June) Russell, Ruby (Avery) Williams, Clarence Russell, and David (Susan) Russell.
She is survived by daughters Suzanne (Kenneth) Ward of Ocoee, Fla, Karen (Ken) Franklin of Tangerine, Fla and Christin (Aaron) Haunhorst of St Joseph, MI, Granddaughters Amanda (Harrison) Flowers of Eustis, Fl and Ashley (Carson) McBride of Orlando, Fl. Elizabeth and Alice Haunhorst of St Joseph, MI and one grandson Jacob Haunhorst of St Joseph, MI. Great Grandchildren Colton Dotzert of Eustis, Fla, Reed and Raylin Flowers of Eustis, Fla.
