Mrs Bruce was one of my favorite Sunday School  teachers. I was a rascal but she was always so sweet. I was probably only 3 or 4 years old but I can still remember building blocks and going to her home as a child. I must have driven by that old home in Gotha hundreds of times in the last 59 years. I always said a prayer for her and her family as I had memories flood my mind.  Love, Dale 

Please know that your mom was s very special lady.  She was the sweetest lady.  One day when the GAs were serving breakfast to her Sunday School ladies she brought memorabilia of her days of teaching and leading the girls. She had kept everything. It was s great time.  I will miss her.  She is s treasure.  So thankful for sharing life with her a short time.  Looking forward to great times ahead with her.  May God comfort you with great memories.  

Dear Bruce Family,

I had the privilege of teaching with Mrs. Bruce the year before she retired. The following school year I gave birth to our son Carson.  Mary came back to Foundation Academy to cover my class while I was on maternity leave. I was always in awe of her ability to recall every students name from years past.  She never, and I mean NEVER forgot a student. 

Little did she know that she would only semi-retire that year, as she kept Carson in her home for me while I returned to work half days, and would continue to watch him the first two years of his life. She was Heaven sent to us and the perfect fit for our family!

I know this precious soul received many jewels in her crown last Wednesday when she entered the gates of her Father's house. Mary was indeed a precious jewel here on earth!

**The attached picture is the last time that Mary and Carson saw each other. Carson told her on that day that it would be his turn to carry her now!

Aunt Mary was the youngest of her brothers and sisters and my Daddy was the oldest.  He was 17 years older than Mary.  She told me several times the story of when he went home on leave with a new convertible and she had a pet goat.  The goat got in his car and tore it up.   He would also tell the story and laugh robustly.  He loved his baby sister dearly and got a kick out of that incident for the rest of his life.  She loved her animals and was exceptional at training them.

There’s a special place in all of our hearts for our mothers, just like there’s a special place in every mother’s heart for her children. You must continue to carry her memory in that special place in your heart. We are sincerely sorry for the loss of your mother. Prayers for peace, strength and comfort in the days ahead as you learn to live without her.

Well, I have learned so much more than I knew about Mary Bruce from all these wonderful comments.  Let's just say that anyone who spent their their time here on this earth helping children "learn how to be" and working diligently to endow them with life lessons and great principles is a saint.  I think that we can safely say that Ms. Bruce was a saint.

She was my daughter stacys very first teacher in pre-k at first baptist. She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes.

Mrs. Bruce was my daughter’s first formal teacher. She loved each child with tenderness and patience. She always had a smile and sweet spirit. May God richly reward her for her faithfulness! 

Mary was a very dear friend. We taught school together and she was so much fun to tease. Her sweet laugh tickled us all. My daughter, Tina, was in her 3 year old preschool class and loved her as well. I’ll never forget our teacher training away at Ridgecrest and Lake Yale. Such wonderful memories. I never understood why she wouldn’t sit next to me there. 🤣 My love and prayers are with her family as they share their own personal stories of such a precious lady.

This sweet, kind woman was mine and Adam’s pre-school (4year olds) teacher at First Baptist Winter Garden. Over the years we were blessed to see her from time to time and dad has always done her pump work. What a blessing to our family to have kept up with such a special lady. She loved the Lord so no doubt there is a homecoming celebration in her honor right now! It’s funny what the brain remembers and forgets, but I’ll never forget falling off the monkey bars and seeing her running to comfort me. (I think it was the first time I had seen a grown up run!)  This side lost one beautiful soul, but weren’t we blessed to have her!

Mrs Bruce was a wonderful lady. She taught my daughter, Sara Luff in pre school at First Baptist Church in Winter Garden. Sara adored her and so did we. She was such a lovely person.

Mary's husband of 59 years, Richard Scott Bruce, preceded her in death in 2008.

Mary was the beloved mother of one son and 3 daughters.
Family was very important to her and she loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom survive her.  Son, Richard Bruce II (Debra Ivey), and daughters Jennifer (Mark) Hill, Cathy (Robert) Goodson, and Juliann (Mark) Unger; her grandchildren Richard Bruce III (Mary Pat), Paul Watson, Sean Bruce (Jade), Megan Andrews (Scott), Brittany Hill Hall, Tyler Hill, Casey Goodson, Alex Goodson (April), Dustin Goodson (Lindsey), Olivia and Marielle Unger; and her great grandchildren, Alexandra Conte, Kendall Watson, Amaya and Aidan Hall, Delanney Goodson, and Piper and Cooper Goodson. .
