Nadine "Nada" Knox

M. Nadine “Nada” Knox, born August 5, 1934 in Orlando, Fl. Nada graduated in the last Senior Class at Orlando High School. While working in the office of Dave Starr, Orange County Sheriff, she met a Florida Highway Patrolman named Jim Knox and four months after their first date, they married on September 8, 1956. In 1962, Jim and Nada started Knox Nursery, Inc. in a 4’X4’ mist box on their back porch and now 50 years later, Knox Nursery, Inc. is the 98th largest greenhouse in America. In the early years, Nada participated in all aspects of the business by planting, watering, finances/bookkeeping, purchasing and anything that needed to be done, even delivering plants when she was pregnant. Through her diligence she created a solid foundation for the company to grow for the future. Nada was devoted to the Nursery and more importantly to her staff, many of whom she treated as family. She left a legacy of business principals, treat all people fairly, vendors, customers and staff. She knew that you could not have one, without the other.Nada retired in 1999 and it was at this time she was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy and she began a courageous battle against this disheartening disease. Nada is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jim Knox, and her 3 sons: Steve Griffiths (Cathy), Monty Knox and Bruce Knox (Amanda). Three Grandchildren: Brian Griffiths (Jen), Michelle Gibson (Charlie) and Brad Griffiths (Courtney) and 6 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents M.K. Belmany and Margie A. (Tucker) Belmany and her brother J. Robert “Bob” Belmany. The family will be receiving family and friends on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Woodlawn Funeral Home; from 5 to 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Woodlawn Funeral Home; at 10 am, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
