

Nerissa Alethia McLaverty-Jones died at age 88 on August 16, 2015. Born in Mount Valley, Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. Nerissa is the daughter of the late Percival and Geraldine (Ayten) McLaverty. Nerissa had two children that were dear to her heart, Astor Barrington (Barry) Chevalleau and Michael Gordon Campbell. Barry is married to Marlene Chevalleau and resides in Winter Garden, Florida. Barry worked as a Chef for over twenty-five years. Michael retired after twenty-two years of service in the United States Marine Corps and currently works for the Federal Government. Michael is married to Evangeline Marie Campbell and they reside in Fredericksburg, VA with their two children. Nerissa was married to Michael's father, Lloyd Campbell, who resides in Jamaica, West Indies. Narissa was blessed with four grandchildren, Astor Barrington Chevalleau, Michael Gordon Campbell III, Michael Lloyd Campbell, Jr., and Evangeline Nerrissa Campbell, a step-grandchild Mark Edmond and great grandchild, Angela Taylor Chevalleau. Narissa's sons' and grandchildren were the center of her life and brought her much joy and happiness.As a single parent at age 34, Nerissa moved to the United States to pursue a better life for herself and her beloved children. Nerissa settled in Brooklyn, New York where she initially worked as a waitress. Nerissa was a strong willed and independent women, who proudly purchased a home where she raised her sons. Eventually, Nerissa retuned to school and became a Certified Nurses Assistant. In 1976, Nerissa and her sons moved to Orlando,Florida, where she purchased a second home and continued to work in the medical field for more than fifteen years. In 1993 Nerissa retired from the Florida Manor. Nerrisa would always express gratitude for the opportunities she received as a naturalized US citizen. Nerissa's love of family extended to her siblings, nieces, and nephews. Nerissa was reared in a close-nit family. She had seven siblings and was especially close to her sister, the late Muriel McLaverty - Ho -Yen. Nerissa is survived by five sisters and brothers: David McLaverty (UK), Icynth (Icy) McLaverty-Morrison (UK), Edgar Blackstock (UK), Hervin Blackstock (Jamaica) and Florence 'Blossom' Blackstock-Morrison (Canada). Her younger brother, Roy Blackstock, passed away, in Jamaica, in 2013. Nerissa loved her siblings and despite the distance remained in close contact with them all.The closeness of the McLavety and Blackstock family goes beyond the siblings, it encompasses all nieces and nephews to include Gem, Marcia, Elaine, Sonya, Charmine, Ingrid, Raymond, Gary, Donovan, Brian, and Deanna. "Auntie Nerissa" would alway praise the love and support she frequently received from her nieces and nephews; especially Brian and Deanna who provided care and support to her during her later years. Nerissa was especially close to Gem, whom she considered a daughter. The family is eternally grateful to Jheanrl, who lived with and cared for Nerissa during her last days. Nerissa was a Christian woman, who loved the Lord, and was a devoted member of the Holy Family Episcopal Church, Orlando. Nerissa believed in the power of prayer and she prayed constantly for her loved ones and friends.Those of us she left behind will remember her "feistyness," generosity, and intense love for her sons. If Nerissa had a Mango or Pear, she would offer you half. When Nerissa cooked Oxtail or Cow Foot, she would always save some to share with others. A women of humble means, she was dedicated to God, her sons', and her extended family. Nerissa lives forever in Heaven, in peace with God and her loved ones who passed on before her.
