Born a Kentucky mountain boy, Noah always dreamed of sailing the seas. He tried to convince his parents to allow him to join the military early, but his mother refused. So, he attended a nearby technical school studying welding. Soon, he was sent to Fort Knox, Kentucky for practical hands-on training. There, he worked with an Army Sargeant, and together they retrofitted General Patton’s tanks, which were used to fight in the North African campaign against Field Marshall Irwin Rommel (The Desert Fox). Noah’s work was so impressive that the Sargeant managed to get him hired into civil service as his apprentice. Noah possessed an innate ability to design and improve any project that he undertook.
Once he was of age, he fulfilled his dream of sailing the seas by joining the United States Navy, serving during WWII from March 25, 1943 – April 15, 1946. Thereafter, he returned home to Kentucky where he soon realized that he missed military life and serving his country. So, on March 7, 1947, he reenlisted this time with the United States Coast Guard where he served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
In March of 1954, Noah married Shirley Mae, and together with their children, they traveled the world in the military until his retirement from the USCG on September 30, 1964. Noah, then, became a small businessperson, working hard to provide for his family and to instill in his children the importance of following your dreams.
