Robert (Bob) Franklin Robinson, a proud veteran of the United States Navy, passed away on February 6, 2022 after a battle with Alzheimer’s in Melbourne, Florida. The youngest son of William and Thelma Robinson, Bob grew up in Medford, New Jersey. He was born July 29, 1942 and graduated from Medford High School in 1960.
At the age of 18, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. As part of this service, Bob attended Nuclear Power School and spent time as an instructor in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He then went on to serve on several Nuclear-Powered Submarines and surface crafts. Bob served during the Vietnam War and earned medals of honors, such as the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Humanitarian Service Medal, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
Bob married Rose on June 3, 1961. As a Navy family, the family then traveled throughout the United States. One of our favorite tours of duty was our two stays in Honolulu, Hawaii. Upon his retirement, the family then settled in Casselberry, FL. Bob went to work for Walt Disney World in the Monorail Shop. Bob had a 30-year career at Walt Disney World. Shortly after starting his second career at Walt Disney World, they finally relocated to West Orlando, FL. Bob and Rose traveled all around the world during his military career and loved to cruise for vacation. They spent time in Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, several Disney cruises, a Transatlantic cruise along with trips to Alaska and Greece. Bob had a list of every cruise they took, the list included the name of the ship, the stops while on their voyage and the dates of each trip. Bob became an avid reader in his retirement and continued to do his daily “puttering” in the yard.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rose Lynn Robinson and both of his parents. He is survived by his brother Fred and wife Caroline Robinson of Pennsylvania, daughters Lori and husband Tim Gurney, of Ft. Myers, Fl; Linda and husband Steve Kaplan of Merritt Island, FL; his son Mark and wife Renee Robinson of New Smyrna Beach, FL. And daughter-in-law, Alina Robinson of Winter Garden, FL. Bob was lovingly known as “Pop-Pop” to his five grandchildren Zachary, Aubrey, Cory, Alexis and Connor.
A graveside service honoring the life and service of Bob will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at 1:00PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, Gotha, FL.
