

It is with great sadness that we announce Robert Joseph Ward, passed away on October 14th 2021. Robert was born on September 13th 1936 to Michael and Anna of Providence, Rhode Island. He is survived by his three sons Steven, Patrick and Russell; his sister Ruth Bloch; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Virginia, Father, Michael; Mother, Anna; sisters Lorraine, Dorothy, and Shirley and brothers Mickey and Frank.
Robert was born in Providence, Rhode Island and following graduation from high school enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1955. He attended basic training at Sampson Air Force Base, Geneva, New York, initial training at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi and his first operational assignment was in Japan. In 1957 he was assigned to Roslyn Air Force Station in Long Island, New York. This is where he met the love of his life, Virginia (Ginny). They were married and welcomed their first son, Steven Dale. His second son, Patrick Michael was born in Akron, Ohio in 1958 and his third son, Russell Lee was born in Orlando, Florida in 1968.
Bob continued his Air Force journey over the next eighteen years spanning assignments to Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Billings, Montana; Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts; The Philippine Islands; Orlando, Florida; West Germany; and Humble, Texas.
In 1975, following 20 years of service, Bob retired from the Air Force and the family settled into their Orlando home. Bob began his second career with Sun Bank of Florida where he served as an Assistant Vice President, Project Management. In 1999, both he and Ginny retired and enjoyed their passion, traveling.
Bob visited numerous places throughout the United States including Hawaii and Alaska as well as many cruises to the Caribbean and Central America. He loved to travel to military reunions and spend time in their mountain cabin overlooking the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Robert Joseph Ward…loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend. Strong, giving, opinionated, a mentor to all. Avid reader and photographer, fan of all sports, stock market follower/investor. He leaves behind a treasure of memories for his family and friends.
The funeral service will be held October 22nd 2021 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd, Gotha, Florida. Visitation will occur from 10-11am followed by services and interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Robert requested donations be made at Woundedwarriorproject.org. The family requests that all who attend wear a mask.
