

Sam was born on September 2, 1924 in Somerset, Kentucky. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific and New Guinea. Discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1946. Married to Katy Lou Edwards on May 26, 1950. Lived in Vienna, Virginia and retired in 1987 as Office Administrator at the Office of the Legislative Counsel, U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. Moved to Punta Gorda, Florida where he worked as a travel agent and was a member of the Punta Gorda Kiwanis Club until 2004 when he moved to Orlando. Was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians for more than 60 years and a member of First Baptist Church of Orlando.
He was preceded in death by parents, Alonzo and Vita McGahan, a sister, Evelyn Lee Groseclose, sons, Scott Matthew McGahan, Timothy Wayne McGahan, Patrick James McGahan and a grandson, Army 2LT Michael Everett McGahan, who gave his life while serving his country in Afghanistan. He is survived by his wife Katy McGahan, son Samuel McGahan Jr., six grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and brother Don McGahan.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 13th at 11:00 at First Baptist Church of Orlando.
