Earl is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary, son James (Sharyn) and daughter Catherine (Danny), five grandchildren Brittney, Nicholas, Christopher, Mark (Emily) and Scott (Sara) and one great grandson Trevor.
Being a native Floridian, Earl was born (and raised) in Plant City, FL on Oct 3, 1934. He attended Mars Hill College for 2 years and then completed his bachelor's degree in accounting at Carson Newman College, where he met his future wife, Mary. After college, he served with the Army Reserves. He worked for the railroad on breaks between college and until he was hired by the United States Postal Service where worked until retiring in 1992.
His natural love for learning and having fun led to hobbies that included riding his motorcycle, scuba diving and being a private pilot. As a member of the Orlando Aero club, he would fly his wife and children to fun places around Florida or to Virginia to visit family.
His faith was the driving factor for his life, and he led through example by following closely to his Christian principles. He was an active member of Delaney Street Baptist church since 1958. He served God through his service to others and held many positions at his church including Chairman of the trustees, deacon, greeter, CDL driver and keyholder. He readily volunteered to aid the elderly to and from their cars and often drove those in need to appointments or the airport. The opportunity to participate in a missionary trip to China and travel to the Holy Land were a culmination of his beliefs.
In 2007 he signed up as a volunteer with the Citizen on Patrol division of the Orlando Police Department. He enjoyed serving his community and participating in keeping its citizens safe. He was honored by the C.O.P. as the 2020 Volunteer of the year.
Earl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to Delaney Street Baptist Church, 1919 Delaney Ave, Orlando FL 32806 from 3pm- 4pm and will be followed by the Celebration of life service at 4pm on Saturday, September 12, 2020.
