William "Bill" Robert Ellis, age 86, passed away Friday morning, December 12, 2025, at his home in Altamonte Springs, Florida. He was born on March 21, 1939, in Atlanta, Georgia, a son of the late Oran Barnett and Ruth Ellis, Sr.
Bill was proud to be in the Army Reserves as a young man. He married the love of his life, Kay, and they had two children. Bill worked in the construction industry most of his life, earning his Mechanical, General and Plumbing Contractor Licenses and eventually owning his own successful Mechanical Contracting business, Ellis Mechanical.
He was a member of Maitland Presbyterian Church. For almost 50 years, Bill was a Proud Freemason of South Seminole Lodge #364.
Bill was very active in the Bahia Shrine and also served as a Board member for the Shriners' Children's Hospital in Tampa. One of Bill's favorite parts of his involvement was with the Bahia Transportation Unit, providing transportation for patients and families to and from the hospital so the children could receive treatment at no cost.
For over 20 years Bill and other Bahia Shriners have organized the Bahia Shrine Golf Unit and RV Club Golf Tournament sponsored by The Harper Family Charitable Foundation to raise funds for Shriners Childrens of Florida.
In 2023 Bill was recognized by The Bergenske Family Charitable Fund with the Humanitarian Award for his many years of service to others.
Bill was an avid golfer and he and his wife Kay spent many happy hours with the fellow Shrine Golf Club and RV Unit members.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Kay, and his daughter, Sheila. He is survived by his son Steve Ellis (Mari Ellis), Grandkids: Victoria Ellis, Jason Ellis, Brittany Blagg (Brian), Dylan Saile (Natalie) Great grandkids: Emalynn, Chase, Easton, Kinsley and a baby girl, Kayla, due in May 2026
He also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss him greatly.
Visitation and service for the public will be held @10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 20th, 2025, at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Gotha, FL.
There will be a Masonic White Apron Ceremony and a Celebration of Life for Bill at the Bahia Shrine in Apopka after the first of the year.
