

He began his career as a Construction Mechanic in the U.S. Navy Seabees in 1955. He served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1972. He received many awards, including the Naval Commendation Medal and two Navy Achievement Combat Awards. His hard-earned promotion to Sr. Chief was one of his proudest career moments. He retired December 31, 1987 in Port Hueneme, CA, at the Naval Construction Battalion Center. He completed his military career as a Master Chief Petty officer--his other proudest moment.
He was an avid reader and learner, earning a Bachelor of Science from University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Business Administration from University of Laverne. He loved guns, the song, “Honey,” by Bobby Goldsboro, computer games, and crossword puzzles.
He died June 9, 2017 in Orlando, Florida. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife: Kim Ha; his four children: William Kent, Valkyrie Diane (Sutton) Hodkinson, Lucille Marie Sutton, Bensie Kim (Sutton) Cheney, and his five grandchildren: David Sutton, Dennis Wayne Bailey, Allacia Bailey, Helen Cheney, and Connor Cheney.
