Ziedonis “Zukie” Vitols, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 28, 2020 in Winter Garden Florida. He was a devout husband of Joan Carol Vitols. They shared 55 years of loving marriage together.
Born in Riga Latvia, he was the son of Albert and Lucija Vitols. During World War II, he and his family fled to Germany and stayed in a transitional camp for one year. His Dad was able to negotiate travel to Canada and they began a new life just outside of Toronto.
Years later, Zukie met Joan. They fell in love and were married on April 24, 1965. In 1971 they moved to St. Petersburg Florida where they raised their three children. Zukie was an Electrician and General Contractor who found many years of success with his own business. After he retired from his business, he decided to keep busy and took employment doing mechanical maintenance at the West Company and Essilor in St. Petersburg Florida.
He was known for his amazing sense of humor and love of life. He was a hardworking man who was most at home with his tools and fixing or building things. He also loved gardening, family projects, and spending time with family, friends, and his many pets. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with family. He traveled to Ireland, NYC, a cruise, and several memorable trips back to Canada.
He is survived by his wife Joan Vitols, Son Robert and wife Diana Vitols, and two Daughters; Lija and husband Michael Kirk, and Amanda and husband Bob Page. Also surviving is his sister Ilga Manko of Toronto, Ontario Canada and eight grandchildren. Predeceased in death by his parents Albert and Lucija Vitols.
Zukie was a wonderful man who loved life and his family. Our love for him will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
