

Angeline Van Slyke, age 96, passed away in peace and comfort on December 22, 2017, receiving hospice care and surrounded by her children. She was preceded in death by her brother Donald, half sister Marie, and by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Wayne William Van Slyke. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11am at Flint St. Mary’s Catholic Church – 2500 N. Franklin Avenue, Flint, Michigan with one hour of visitation prior to mass. Angie was born in Pontiac, Michigan on August 3, 1921 and moved to Flint in her early years. She graduated from Flint Northern High School and attended Baker Business College. She and Wayne married in 1947. A lifelong lover of sports as both a participant and spectator, Angie played on two state championship basketball teams at Flint Northern, and was inducted, joining Wayne, into the Greater Flint Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the IBG Girls softball team. She was able to attend the Kentucky Derby, the Indianapolis 500, the Track and Field Finals of the 1972 Olympics in Los Angeles, and many professional and college sporting events. Angie counted among her memories an around the world cruise on the QE2, a trip to Japan, and many happy times at her fishing cottage in Holly. Angie is survived by son Michael (Ellen) Van Slyke, daughters Patty Plamondon and Vicki (Greg) Carpenter, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and special friends Becky Martin, Chris Van Slyke, Dory Lindhurst, and Sue Foote. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society. Arrangements under the direction of Brown Funeral Home, Grand Blanc, MI.
