January 24, 1952 – September 27, 2025
Edward Frank Usewick II, age 73, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, passed away on September 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 24, 1952, in Saginaw, Michigan, Ed lived a full and inspiring life defined by devotion, adventure, and deep love for those around him.
Ed married the love of his life, Roxanne Marie, in 1977. Together they built a beautiful life in Grand Blanc, where they have resided since 1987. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with laughter, travel, and countless miles bicycled on a tandem seen all over Genesee County.
A proud and loving father, Ed is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law: Edward and Kim, Eric and Kat, and Elliot and Kelli. He was the cherished grandfather of Taylor, Tucker, Nolan, Lenah, and Cillian, and is reunited in heaven with his first grandchild, Bentley. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Blondin and Sally Shaffer, along with 16 nieces and nephews who adored their “Uncle Ed.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eleanore, and brothers Allan and John.
Education and hard work were cornerstones of Ed’s life. A 1970 graduate of St. Stephen’s High School, Ed went on to earn a B.A. in Industrial Engineering from GMI(1975), where he was a proud member of Pi Kappa fraternity. He later earned an M.A. in Science Administration from Central Michigan University (1979) and an M.A. in Manufacturing Operations from Kettering University (2011). His professional career spanned 43 years at GM/Delphi, where he contributed to the founding launch of Saturn and left an enduring legacy of innovation and leadership.
Outside of work, Ed poured his energy into his many passions. At just 11 years old, he became the Soapbox Derby Champion of Saginaw in 1964, proudly sponsored by Chevrolet Motor Division—a sign of his determination and drive even at a young age. He went on to become a lifelong bicyclist, completing the DALMAC Bike Tour an astounding 51 times and serving as an ambassador for its routes. Ed was also an active member of the Grid Association, SAE, Genesee Wanderers Assenmacher Volunteers, and TCBA. In 2024, he and Roxanne rode over 4,000 miles together on their tandem bicycle, a true reflection of both his endurance and the partnership they shared. Beyond cycling, Ed devoted 30 years to Mt. Holly as a senior ski patroller, where he found joy in adventure and in serving others. His character and bravery shone brightly—most notably when he was awarded the Yellow Merit Star in 2019 for his courageous actions during a roadside medical emergency. To all who knew him, Ed was not only a man of remarkable accomplishments, but also one of deep honor and integrity.
Ed was happiest outdoors—on a tandem bike with Roxanne, on a ski slope with his family, or on a camping trip with those he loved. Always on the move, his zest for life was matched only by his devotion to his family. To his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and countless friends, he was a steady presence, a source of encouragement, and a pillar of strength.
Ed’s life was a testament to love, loyalty, and living fully. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy of devotion and adventure will continue to inspire all who knew him.
