Did Frank attend Cathedral High School in Hamilton Ontario Canada around 1958. I remember him as not a very tall or big person at the time.

I recently heard of Frank's passing and am sending my condolences to his entire family.
Our connection was through our parents.  Mirko & Margaret were my Godparents  of whom I have lovely memories.
Frank was an intelligent man, respected and admired by those fortunate enough to have known him.  May he rest in peace!

Frank and his dad Mirko introduced me to hunting at an early age, they were my hunting mentors. I enjoyed hunting pheasants and jackrabbits in Essex County, Ontario,  Canada. We we had many memorable outings in the great outdoors.  Frank was a great ambassador for the outdoors and a true sportsman. To this day I sometimes drive past their home on Hickory Road, Windsor and remember Frank, his father and mother. 
My condolences  to the Ilijanic family who were one of the founders of the Croatian Hall in Windsor, Ont. Can. and who were very well respected in the community. Frank your love of the outdoors and musical talents will be missed but not forgotten. Rest in peace my fellow sportsman. 

To the Ilijanic family, my condolences are with you.  When I first came to VW in 1999, I had the pleasure of meeting Frank for the first time.  He taught me how to be tough and how to stand tall!  If he knew I was writing something he considered "soft", he would be on me right now!

Frank was a true champion and I know he will be missed by all. Please stay strong as that is the only way Frank would have it...

Your papa loved you more than anything and more than you know.  He loved life and loved everything he did and did what he loved till this day the Lord called him to heaven.  He is with your grandparents now Bubba, Grandpa Mirko, Grandpa Jim, nana Mary, and our baby girl Ilijanic and of course Tisa and Seger.  He has taught you and your dad and uncles everything he knows.  Papa would want you to teach your sister about him and others about his love of fishing and hunting.  As well as what he did for all that knew him he would want you to do the same.  He will forever be missed, and forever loved.

Frank took me Musky fishing when I was 16 when we were neighbors in Sterling Heights.  We caught a 41” Musky that I swear was a great white shark.  Frank mounted it and I still have it 43 years later.  I think of Frank’s kindness every time I look at it.

As I read through these memories and condolences, it's so obvious what an amazing man, mentor, and friend you have been to everyone.  You are the reason I am in the job I love. Frank was a wonderful and caring man.  I was a manager at VW and he helped me get through many rough HR issues by always taking the time to listen and offer great advice.  He was compassionate and so full of wisdom.  I can only imagine what an inspiration he was to his own family.  To Mark and Kim Ilijanic, who both worked for me at one time, you must be so proud to have had him for a Dad and Grandpa to your children! Frank was such a kind, thoughtful, understanding person. My condolences to the family. 

Frank was a kind and thoughtful person and he was always the voice of reason.  I used to call him the silver tongued fox because he had a way with words.  When we would be in meetings, he would look like he wasn't paying attention or interested, but then he would impart some words of wisdom and he would repeat what the speaker had just said but in a more articulate way.   He was always so good at it and I enjoyed listening to him.

 One of the funniest memories I have of him was when he was called  "Flyjanic" because of a piece of mail that in came with that name on it and someone posted pictures in HR of a fly with Franks face on it!  It was pretty funny!

I worked for or with Frank for almost 30 years.  Life at Volkswagen was a roller coaster ride, up and down,  good times and bad times.  But the one thing that remained consistent was you always got good straight forward advice from Frank.  When spirits were low, and the glass appeared to be half empty, I would talk with Frank.  When we were through suddenly the glass was darn near full.  He certainly had a way of making things better.  A great boss and an even greater friend.  You will be missed my friend.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Frank. My memory of Frank was of a professional mentor and a guy who would tell you what he really felt about the issue of the moment. Frank brought reason and understanding each time we had an HR issue to handle. He was a caring family man we all admired.

It was sad to hear of Frank’s passing. He was an amazing mentor. We all probably remember Frank in his HR role, but for a time he led a amazing leadership class that helped me as a new manager. All I can say is thanks to Frank for leading by example, and helping me to be a better person. It was privilege to have had his guidance! 

Frank, you were one of the few HR persons I care to remember from my over 40 years with VW. You were direct, honest and respectful, indeed  unusual for an HR Guy. You left much too young, but should I get where you are now I would enjoy your wisdom and thoughtfulness   you have gained there already. My sincere condolences to your family and friends. Rest in peace dear colleague!

I always thought of Frank as the “salt of the earth”.  He wasn’t pretentious but rather always direct, honest and willing to help. I can’t even begin to remember how often he kept me out of trouble.   He would often just put his hand on my shoulder, smile and say please don’t do that. Even though he never had the official title of VP he was in fact the leader of HR.  I will never forget Frank. I’m sure his name will come up whenever us old VW colleagues get together. 

I was saddened to hear of Frank’s passing. I enjoyed my time working with Frank in HR. He was my mentor and friend. He will be greatly missed. 

Hearing about Frank’s passing was very sad news. Frank was a good friend and colleague with my late husband, Mike. Somewhere perhaps they are meeting once again, sharing laughs over a beer or two. Peace, Frank. 

Frank and I first met in a training class when I arrived in Troy from Englewood Cliffs.  He was passionate about building VWoA talent and development, and I needed him to be.  Over the years, we worked together I saw his integrity and conviction in all his work.  But mostly, I saw Frank as a "Good Man" who would always wanted to do the right thing.  Yes, I graced his office many times.  And he was to me, always a good coach.  We were blessed to have Frank help all of us to build a great team at VW.  I'm certain that our Lord, has already told him, "Welcome Home,  Coach".   

I was deeply saddened to learn of Frank's passing. Our time together was way too short but long enough to call him "friend". May the blessings of Our Lord be with Frank and his family during this very difficult time.

I will always consider Frank to be a consummate VWoA company man. 
Focused on the ways and means of everyone in the building.
He was tough… and he commanded respect.
He always called it straight.
No B.S. with him or from him...
He was without question a pillar of our corporation.


I'm so sad to hear of Frank's passing.  He was truly a wonderful person and good friend.  I could always count on him to help when I needed it.  I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to work with him.

I had the wonderfully good fortune to work with Frank at Volkswagen for almost 40 years I do not think I ever met anybody who had more common sense and integrity every meeting I ever had with Frank ran over time because we were laughing so much with each other my sincerest condolences to Frank’s family what is often said he was one of a kindAnd since my retirement from Volkswagen he is one of the people I have missed the most
