John Joseph Crouch, a devoted educator, counselor, and cherished member of the Flint, Michigan community, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on July 4, 1944, John dedicated his life to fostering growth and guidance in countless students throughout his career.
John's impact in education was profound, serving with distinction in the Flint school system at Flushing High School, Flint Northwestern High School and Flint Central High School. Following his retirement from public schools, he continued his commitment to student success as a counselor at Baker College and the Michigan State University Admissions Department. His passion for education also touched Spring Arbor University, where he contributed to the School of Graduate and Professional Studies. As a licensed professional counselor for 50 year, John offered wisdom, support, and compassion to many, always putting others' needs before his own.
John’s enduring love for life was evident in his many passions—playing softball, skiing, golfing, and watching college football, especially cheering for Michigan State. He took great pride in his appearance and lived life with enthusiasm and humility.
John's legacy is beautifully carried forward by his beloved wife of 38 years, Toni, his soulmate, with whom he frequently shared the heartfelt affirmation, "I love you and God loves you more." He is also remembered fondly by his stepdaughter, Carmon Dawkins; granddaughters, Lauren Harris and Courtney (Tyler) Moga; great-grandchildren, Sloan and Javi; his sister Anita (Dale) Prior; his niece Amy and many other nieces and nephews; special cousin Judy Orr and her family; and his lifelong best friend, Edward Wallace. John was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Frances Crouch.
His faith in God was the cornerstone of his life, inspiring him to live with humility and a desire to help others without seeking recognition. John’s favorite saying, "The measure of a man is not in how many awards he received but in how many people he has helped. If a man's height is measured by the good he's done, John stands tall," reflects the true measure of his character.
Special thanks are extended to Absolute Home Health and Hospice, Nurse Sheryl Trevarrow RN, Shea Barner CNA, and Rose Rybo RN and Brook Phillips CNA from Comforcare Home Care, for their compassionate care and support during John’s final days.
John was a proud member of the American Counseling Association and the Michigan Counseling Association, and he was actively involved in Woodside Church for over 20 years.
A funeral visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan, 48439, on December 29, 2025, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the same location.
John Joseph Crouch’s life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and faith—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the honor of knowing him.
