

Leon was born on June 26, 1933, in Flint, Michigan. He was a wonderful, Christian man who enjoyed various hobbies including woodworking, carpentry and was always willing to help fix things for others and also built handicap ramps for those in need. In his spare time, Leon liked watching military and history documentaries. His family said he was a World War II expert and he always loved to learn new things. Leon was also known as a practical joker, and would often share jokes with his family and friends. He proudly served in the United States Army, prior to earning his Masters Degree. For twenty-eight years, he was a teacher at McKinley Junior High School in Flint, Michigan. Leon thoroughly loved teaching, and working with children. In addition, he was a director at the YMCA. Family was very important to him, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Leon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Leon leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of sixty-eight years, June; children Jeffrey (Sally) Shelley, Susan (Reverend Ted) Stewart and Paul (Heather) Shelley; grandchildren Stephanie (Mike) Kefer, Brian (Courtney) Shelley, Jennifer (Ryan) Dodgson, Hannah (Marcus) Morris, Taylor (Sarah) Stewart, Holden and Ashton Shelley; and great-grandchildren Mikey and Samantha Kefer, Jaxon Shelley, Bronco Dodgson and Juniper Morris.
Leon was preceded in death by his brother AG Shelley, Jr., sister Marsha Matthews, sister-in-law Katherine Shelley, and brother-in-law Ken Matthews.
Leon will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery with military honors in Holly, Michigan.
