Robert was born January 11, 1946 in Flint, MI. Preceding him in departure are his parents Paul and Arlene (VanHouten) Gullett. Brothers; David Hunt and Brian Gullett. He liked to ride his Harley and hangout with his brothers of Special Operation Association, Social Forces and you know the other two letters that were important to him, as he has provided a beacon to those that needed him. During the Vietnam War Bob proudly wore his Green Beret, serving in the U.S. Army, Special Forces 5th Group; MACV-SOG. His awards and decorations are: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Conflict Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Special Forces Weapons Qualification, Overseas Bar, Parachute Qualification Badge and Combat Infantryman Badge. Bob worked in the Flint, Michigan car industry for 40 years before retirement. The making of a Green Beret. Bob saw a pamphlet with a picture of a Green Beret and the words "Are you man enough to wear this beret"? This pamphlet changed the course of his life. Bob was never the type to back down from a challenge, he told himself if he is going to be there in a war that no one supported then he might as well be one of the few and answer the question of the pamphlet. In 1966 he had six months left in his tour of duty in Germany . The war in Vietnam escalated, so he answered his calling in Frankfort, Germany in the recruiter's office. Two weeks later: He took a battery of grueling test that would try his mental, physical and fortitude to its limits. After successfully surpassing the qualifications, he was to report to Fort Benning Georgia to complete Air Bourne training to earn his wings with orders to Fort Bragg. At Last, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Home of Special Forces, "John F. Kennedy Center for Special Warfare", On July 6, 1968 and after one year of extensive training imaginable, specializing in weapons, he graduated with dual M.O.S. - 11B and 11C4S certifications. He had earned his Green Beret and he was man enough to wear that Green Beret that he saw on the pamphlet and he proudly wore his. On the wings of a D.C. -10 landing at Kham-Ran Bay, Military Assistance Command Vietnam Headquarters scrambling for cover as soon as he as he got off the aircraft. The beret he wore meant that his assignment would take him a bit further to Nha-Trang; 5th Special Forces Headquarters upgrading his clearance from top secret to Top Secret Crypto Clearance. Those with upgraded clearances went to Da Nang to Phu-Bai the Command and Control North Headquarters(CNN) Special Forces; This is where the real training would begin. Team Alaska, Team Connecticut and Team Alabama all together serving 6 recon missions in this secret war. His most memorable mission was team Alabama with his best friend Lynne Black Jr. The mission had been compromised by one of our nationalist team members. He betrayed and turned on his American counterparts. "Our team had turned on us and we needed out A.S.A.P. while waiting for the choppers; we talked it over and Lynne figured that the man by the tree pulled the pin on a grenade and threw it behind him, letting it roll down the hill, with the 4 second delay fuse it rolled far enough down, plus the tree being about 3 feet thick, he knew he was in no danger. We figured he must have gotten spooked when we fired those m-79 rounds, not knowing our intentions". They were all in serious danger and Lynne radioed for extraction and the rest of the events that followed were gruesome and will remain in the 4 feet tall elephant grass of Vietnam, his best friend became my brother. Lynne is the reason this obituary is written for 01/22/2017 instead of 1967, before the birth of my first daughter, who is indecently named after him and is proudly his God Daughter. Surviving are children and Families: Shea’ton Lynne Russell ; grandchildren Rollen Poole II, Trisha Poole, Great Grandchildren; Rollen Poole III, LaKai Poole, Grandchildren Shea' Hugie, Brandin Hugie, Great Grandson Zeik Hugie and Shawn Wonder.
