Agnes Lydia Hoover passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, on March 30 following a brief illness.
Agnes was born in Grand Junction to John Douglas Murphy and Goldia Davis Murphy. She was raised in the Clifton area, graduating from Grand Junction High School in 1940. On June 14, 1942 she married Homer Glen Hoover in Glenwood Springs, CO. Together they had two children. Following Homer’s death in 1963, Agnes worked as a bookkeeper at Hoover Brothers Sinclair and later at Palisade Nursing Home.
Agnes enjoyed fishing and camping on the Grand Mesa, playing cards and games, reading, knitting, crafts, sports, and spending time with her family. She was blessed with many dear friends and loving relatives, and was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She liked to tell stories and was known for her quick sense of humor and bright smile. Many of her children’s friends fondly remember her as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout Leader.
Agnes leaves behind her son Wade Hoover and daughter Glenell (Sam) Parker, both of Grand Junction; grandchildren Lee (Chanda) Parker of Grand Junction, Angela and Alisha Hoover of North Carolina, and Cory Hoover of San Francisco; great-grandchildren Machenna and Sophia Parker, and Cameron and Logan Hoover; brother in-law Melvin (Karma) Hoover of Grand Junction; cousins Don (Lorene) Davis of Grand Junction, John (Mary) Peterson of Arizona, and John (Mildred) Murphy of Denver,; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Norman Murphy. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grand Junction, CO.
