Alejandro "Alex" Herrera

Alejandro “Alex” Herrera, 30, of Fruita, CO passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024 with his family by his side. Alex was born on January 22, 1994 in Grand Junction, CO to Rosendo and Suzie Jo Herrera. Alex grew up in Fruita with his brother, Esteban, and cousins Anita, Daniel, and Jessica who were more like his siblings. He graduated from Fruita Monument High School in 2012.

Alex welcomed the best gift of his life, his son Lucas in 2017. Anyone who knew Alex knew how very proud he was of his little “mini me” and bragged about him to anyone that would listen.

Alex had a heart of gold and was a friend to everyone he met. You may have met him as a stranger, but you ended the meeting with a laugh and a smile. His large personality could fill up a room, and his smile could comfort you in your darkest of times. He lived large, loved hard, and never feared tomorrow.

Alex was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Art Gallegos, and his uncle, Rigoberto Landeros-Herrera. He is survived by his parents, Rosendo and Suzie Jo, his brother, Esteban, all of Fruita, his son Lucas Herrera, of Milliken, CO, his maternal grandmother, Shirley Gallegos, of Fruita, his paternal grandparents Aniceto and Micaela Landeros-Herrera, of Guanajuato, Mexico. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A viewing will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 27 from 5-7pm, with a rosary at 7pm. Funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 28 at 11am. A luncheon will take place after the burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
