Survivors include her husband, Roy D.; two sons, Kevin R. of Grand Junction, and Colin L. of Greeley; two daughters, Kathleen Leverett of Lakewood, and Erin Noller of Golden; and five grandchildren.

Alyce Combs, 89, died peacefully at home on January 16, 2017.

Alyce was born September 17, 1927, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado to Richard W. McGuirk, Jr. and Erma Hubbard McGuirk. The daughter of two early Glenwood families, Alyce was always proud of her pioneering heritage.

Alyce graduated from high school in Glenwood Springs in 1945 and from Colorado State College of Education (now UNC) in Greeley in 1949. Alyce married Roy Combs in Glenwood Springs later that same year. They were working on their 68th year of marriage at the time of her passing.

She taught English at Littleton High School in Denver until she and Roy started a family. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife and Mom. Roy's career with the D&RGW Rail Road moved them between Denver, Salt Lake City and Grand Junction numerous times. Wherever they landed, Alyce always made it feel like home. She could sew or knit anything, and she kept her family dressed in shirts, dresses, jackets and warm sweaters that she lovingly made with her own hands. She loved gardening, traveling, and spending holidays, especially St. Patrick's Day, with her kids and grandkids. Alyce's strong faith and devotion kept her active in the Catholic Church wherever they happened to be living.

Alyce was preceded in death by her parents, Richard W. McGuirk and Erma Hubbard McGuirk, and by a son, Patrick Combs. She is survived by her husband, Roy; children, Kathleen (Tony) of Lakewood; Kevin (Holly) of Grand Junction; Colin (Becky) of Greeley and Erin (Ben) of Golden. She also leaves five grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

A memorial service for Alyce will be announced at a later date this spring.
