Anna Belle Thomas

Anna Belle was born to Albert and Anna V. Alstatt in Fruita, CO on January 23, 1930 and was the youngest of ten children. She spent her childhood in the Lower Valley and attended grade school in Loma and graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1948.

Anna Belle recently lost her best friend and love of her life, her husband, Charles Thomas just four weeks ago.

Anna Belle married Charles Thomas in 1949. Anna Belle was a homemaker and raised their four children in the same home which Charles built where they resided. After her last child started school, she became a teacher aide at Columbus and Dos Rios Elementaries in District 51 for over 20 years before retiring in 1999.

Anna Belle was a lifelong bowler and continued to bowl until the age of 90. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sewing, and doing crossword puzzles from the newspaper everyday. She also enjoyed outdoor games and golfing. She loved watching sports on TV and in person, especially the Colorado pro-sports teams. She attended as many sporting and activity events that her grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in. She was their biggest fan.

Anna Belle and Charles loved to travel after their retirements. They traveled to many places in the United States as well as took a few cruises outside the US territories. Anna Belle loved to host family dinners at her house as well as attend family reunions. She was the glue that kept the extended family together. She was always there when you needed her and would bring homemade treats to those whom she loved.

She is survived by her daughters Diane Warinner and Linda Johnson, Daughter in law Carol Hunziker-Thomas and son Duane Thomas (Patty) as well as nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Anna Belle is preceded in death by her husband, Charles, son, Danny and an infant son, Son-in-laws Royal Warinner and Darrell Nitz as well as her parents, siblings and other close family members.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 1:00pm at Callahan Edfast Mortuary. In honor of her love for Colorado sports, please feel free to wear Broncos, Rockies, Avalanche, Nuggets or any other sports gear. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to any organization of your choice in Anna Belle’s name.
