Arlyne M Thaxton Potter-Wilkerson passed away at her Clifton home on April 27, 2012. On September 30, 1938 Arlyne married Ernie Potter; he preceded her in death on June 3, 1993. Arlyne received her teaching degree from Mesa College, and Denver University, to teach Special Ed in School District #51. Arlyne enjoyed teaching special ed at Whitman, Riverside and Central High Schools. She loved and taught each student with compassion and understanding and taught them what they needed to learn, to be accepted in society, to be able to work, raise a family and pay their bills. Arlyne was a wonderful mother. She was very active in her children’s lives. She married Al Wilkerson on July 21, 2004 in New Mexico and always told Al wherever thou shall go, I will follow. She loved to travel and meet new folks. Arlyne was a member of Wives of Submarine Veterans, Order of Eastern Star as Past Grand Worthy Matron, Daughters of the Nile, Land’s End Camping Group, and traveled to various different spots for camping. She was also a volunteer at the Veteran’s Hospital and was a lifetime membership at the Clifton Christian Church and enjoyed involvement at the Church volunteering at the clothing and food ministry. Arlyne leaves behind her husband Al Wilkerson, her brother Laverne Thaxton, her children; Bill William (Kris) Potter, their children Eric, Kerry, Derek, Wendy, Rebecca, and Sharon Smith (JR), their children Tina, Tim, and Todd, Brandon Brittany and Alexandria, stepdaughters; Janet Rorick (James), Vera Banford, Linda Hill (Rodney), Karen Yarian. Numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother Harold Taxton and a sister Opal Perry. Arlyne will be deeply missed by all. A Celebration of Arlyne’s life will be held May 4, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., At Clifton Christian Church. We know the true miracle of the first touch in our lives, in one simple truth.
