Bennie was born on February 5, 1935, in Albia, Iowa to Ruth Bernice (Mertz)and William Edward Mosbey. Bennie’s early life was on the farm following his father, his hero, taking care of typical farmer’s duties there. Bennie’s father passed when he was 8 years old. His mother Ruth moved Bennie and his siblings to town where she worked hard raising them as a single mother. Bennie worked to help support the family by delivering newspapers, then working as a soda jerk at the local store. He made many friends through high school that he kept contact with through his life - many of them he talked to on his final days telling them how grateful he was to have them in his life. One of his proudest moments was walking the stage to graduate and seeing his mother in the audience beaming with pride back at him. She did all she could by herself to raise her children by herself and he always was thankful for her actions and sacrifices. After high school he decided to go into the Army. He spent four years of his life in military duty. After the military Bennie went to college at University of Iowa. He graduated with a double degree in Business. His degree led him to work for various construction companies as a business administrator and he retired in Spring of 1999.
Bennie met the love of his life, Sandra Mckenzie, while working on a construction job in Shelbyville, Illinois where the company he was working for was building a dam. After a short courtship they eloped. Bennie and Sandra were married for 58 years and have three children. Peggy, Pamela, Brian, and five grandchildren.
Bennie always had a handshake and a smile for everyone. Even in the end he shared stories, smiles and hugs with the nurses there for him.
We have a hole in our hearts, but know he is at the right hand of God smiling at us with his faithful dog Nacho by his side.
