

Betty was born in Salida, Colorado on July 20, 1931, by parents Frank Howard (printer, business owner, appliance repair man) and home maker Elvira Steckel (Howard). She grew up in Grand Junction with her now deceased siblings, Chet Howard, Merle Manos, Argolis Howard. Growing up in Grand Junction the siblings enjoyed fishing, hunting, and arrowhead hunting.
Betty met her late husband, Kenneth F. Dowdy (a business owner, electronics supervisor, and telecommunications worker) at their Baptist Church. They married on July 18, 1954, and had three children: Kenneth L. Dowdy (Sharon), Cheryl Larson (Randy), and Roger Dowdy (deceased). Betty has eight grandchildren: Stan Dowdy, Kurtis Dowdy, Derrick Gorbet, Dulsie Larson, Nick Larson, Sami, Jacinthe, and Ian Dowdy. She also has one she's proceeded in death by, Jeremy Gorbet.
Betty graduated high school and beauty school. She worked as a beauty operator at Matt & Margie’s Beauty Salon, KinderCare, Footsteps, and opening her own business called John & Goldie's Campers.
She enjoys dancing, puzzles, TV, bingo, fishing, current events, dancing (the jitterbug and 2-step), football, crafts, people watching, and music (country, 50’s/60’s, and religious). Her favorite songs are ‘Life Gets Tedious,’ Alan Jackson songs, and ‘When I’m 64.’ Betty has traveled to California, Texas, and Craig, CO to visit family. Her favorite places are the Mesa Mall, Main Street, and the Grand Mesa. She used to have birds and dogs. Her best friend is Lynn Hooker.
