Beverly J. Whitley went peacefully to be with our loving Lord on Friday evening. Beverly was born in Cody, Wyoming, on May 21, 1935. Her parents were Richard Johnston and Ruth DeVoss. She grew up with her sister, Alta Mae, at Johnston ranch located on the South Fork near Cody. They also went to live with her Aunt and Uncle, Ross and Mable Greer, and their children, Wayne, Joel, and Alta-Mae, on a farm near Gregory, South Dakota.
Beverly married Samuel John Whitley on March 7, 1955 in Lucas, South Dakota, and they lived in Rapid City, where their children were born. She is survived by her husband and their three children, Janet (Matt) Rivett of Maricopa, AZ, Annett (Glen) Heide of Grand Junction, CO, and Samuel (Kathy) Whitley of Cheyenne, WY. Both Beverly and husband Sam are very proud of them, their families, and love them very much.
Beverly and family accompanied Sam on many of his military assignments throughout the world allowing them to live and travel to many places including, Texas, Colorado, Hawaii, California, New Hampshire, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Holland, and the British Isles. As they moved around the world, Beverly kept busy looking after the kids, attending college, teaching Child Evangelism, first-aid, swimming, and doing volunteer work for the Red Cross all while making a home for her family. In 1968 she completed Child Evangelism Fellowship training in Portsmouth, NH. One of her proudest accomplishments was becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse in South Dakota in 1981. Her high scores qualified her to practice in all 50 States. Beverly worked as a private nurse for several years and as a school nurse at Vandenberg Elementary near Ellsworth AFB SD. Beverly accomplished these undertakings while being a loving, loyal, and dedicated wife and mother. Beverly and her husband moved to Grand Junction CO in 2012 and are members of Heritage Church. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary with their extended family on March 7, 2018. Beverly has 3 children, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
