

Carl was born to Walter and Helen Staggs May 11, 1947, in Grand Junction. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1965, received an Associate degree from Mesa State College and attended Colorado State University. Carl was a proud Vietnam veteran; serving in the US Army from 1970-1971. He was honorably discharged as a Sgt. E-5; medals that he received included: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal W/1 Bronze Service Star and Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device. He was a crew dispatcher for the Railroad in Grand Junction, Denver and Omaha from 1978-2009. Carl was a loving husband, son, brother, father and grandfather and had a great sense of humor. In 2020 Carl and his wife Kris, married for 36 years, retired to Grand Junction, CO and through the years provided a loving home to many dogs.
Carl was an avid reader, which helped him to compete nightly with Jeopardy contestants, often times winning! He also enjoyed skiing, fishing, camping and gardening. He was a hometown sports fan, cheering on the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rockies, CU Buffs and CSU Rams.
He is survived by his wife, Kris Staggs, Grand Junction, CO; daughter Melissa (Eric) Brewster, Bellvue, CO; stepdaughter Jackie (Randy) Murr, Silt, CO; stepson Bryan (Sheri) Mudd, Lubbock, TX; grandchildren Casey (Donnie) Staggs, Parker, CO; Tanner (Lacie) Mudd, Lubbock, Tx; Peyton Mudd, Dallas TX; Brayden (Lauren) Brewster, Wellington, CO; Connor, Trevor and Hailey Brewster, Bellvue, CO Olivia Mudd, Lubbock, TX; great-grandchildren Paislee, Riley, Baylor, Jackson and Kylah; brother Havard (Susan) Staggs, Sonoma, CA; Catherine Montgomery, Grand Junction, CO; nieces, nephews and close friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his grandparents, Linn and Mable Smith; parents, Walter and Catherine Helen Staggs; sister, Joanna Staggs; son Ryan Staggs; stepson Bryon Somers; brother-n-law, Tom Montgomery; Mother-n-law MaryAnn Minard; Father-n-law Phillip Minard; brother-n-law Mark Minard.

Burial with military honors will follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. Following the burial, a memorial reception will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 3888 27 1/2 Road, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
