Christy was born in Glenwood Springs on September 24, 1954, the first-born beloved daughter of Gene and Lindy Curtis. She was soon joined by Connie, Jeff, and Caralee, the family now complete.
Christy graduated from Glenwood Springs High School and from the University of Northern Colorado (Elementary Education).
Christy married the love of her life, Richard Preston Abbott, on August 16, 1975. They made their first home in Greeley, Colorado where Aaron Joshua and Rebecca Lyn were born.
In 1985, Dik answered the call to pastor his first church in Walsh, Colorado where Christy and Dik ministered for 13 years. While living in Walsh, Jordan Lyn completed their family. In April 1998, Christy and Dik moved to Cedaredge where they were in full-time ministry for 21 years. Three years ago, they moved to Grand Junction where they thrived and continued to serve the Lord, a blessing to all who know them.
Aaron and wife Hayley have three daughters – Molly (11), Halston (9), Story (5) and a stillborn son Zane who is now being held by his Nana in heaven. Becca and husband Brian Kuster have three children – Brody (12), Bella (10), and Barek (5). Jordan and husband Caleb Miller have a son Liam (not yet one). These seven grandchildren adored their Nana. There are simply no words to describe the rich relationship that Christy and her grandchildren cherished.
In addition to their children and grandchildren, Christy is survived by her husband Dik, two sisters and their husbands, Connie and Steve Casey and Caralee and Bob Berg, brother Jeff and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom delighted in their Aunt Chrissy. There are also hundreds of students across the state who were loved, nurtured and taught by Mrs. Abbott.
To know Christy was to love her; to be loved by her was a gift.
Christy loved and served the Lord with all of her heart for all of her days.
We who remain grieve the loss of our beloved Christy and say well done good and faithful wife, mama, Nana, sister, aunt, cousin, teacher and friend. We love you to the moon and back.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 4th at Monument Presbyterian Church, 2020-1/2 S. Broadway, Grand Junction, Colorado.
