David ""Drew Andrew Grubbs

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Molina Baptist Church.

Mr. Grubbs was a teacher and coach.

Survivors include his wife, Paige; two sons, David Charles of Windsor and Darren Jay of West Richland, Washington; one brother, Kelley of Sikeston, Missouri; two sisters, Nona Carver of Mesa and Melva Bardell of Alexander, Arkansas; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

David Andrew Grubbs

January 25, 1940 – December 13, 2015

Drew Grubbs of Mesa, CO was born in Pueblo, CO and spent most of his youth in Colorado and Arkansas. He graduated from Bryant HS in Arkansas in 1957. Soon after, he joined the Navy serving mostly on the USS Tulare sailing around the world. He fell in love with a very special woman, Paige Crimmins. They were married in 1964 and together attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Drew got a scholarship on the football team but retired after one season when Paige graduated before him and began teaching. They later moved to Golden, CO, both working as teachers. Drew’s love for the Western Slope brought them to Plateau Valley. He began working at the Collbran Job Corps Center in 1971. He was the recreation director before becoming the Driver Education Instructor. Next to being a father & husband, his greatest passion in life was coaching. He loved his boys dearly and enjoyed teaching them to drive, hunt and play basketball. He was a successful & influential track & field coach for many years taking great pride in his athletes. Whether they were winning state titles or improving their personal records, each was important to him. He also loved coaching basketball at several levels.

He is survived by his wife, Paige. They had two children, David (Kim) and Darren (Moya). He had two granddaughters, 2 grandsons and 4 great-grandchildren. He had two sisters, Nona (Alfred) Carver and Melva Bardell and one brother, Kelley (Linda).

In order for Drew to continue to support Plateau Valley students, memorial donations may be contributed to the Drew Grubbs Memorial Scholarship Fund through Grand Valley Bank at 106 Main St. in Collbran in care of Paige or David Grubbs.
