David William Ganss, of Fruita, CO, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction CO. David was born December 9, 1945, to Clarence and Jean Ganss in Toledo, OH. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Toledo, where he later became active in the Church Council, and Bethel Adult Choir, as a Sunday School teacher and Youth Director. He attended school at Arlington Elementary and Libby High School and was active in the Drama Club. Later, he enlisted in the Air Force. After completing basic training, he was stationed in England where he served as a Chaplain's Assistant from 1967-1970. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he attended the University of Toledo and majored in business. David worked as a Production Control Manager in a Steel Foundry in Toledo. After dating for only two and a half weeks, he proposed and later married the love of his life, Donna Jean Jacobson, in 1974. They had been married for 50 years as of June 7, 2024.
He managed Video News in Toledo, OH, and then moved with his family to Fruita, CO in 2000. After retiring from Wheeling Corrugating as an Accountant, he became an active member of Appleton Christian Church. During his free time, he enjoyed the beauty of Colorado’s Western Slope where he could often be found walking his dogs and feeding the birds.
David is survived by his beloved children, Jessica Ahn Ganss (Patrick), Aaron David Ganss (Karen), and Rascal Ganss, and his grandsons, Torin Micah Ganss and Fred Ganss. David was preceded in death by Clarence and Jean Ganss, Shadow, Tesha, Lucky, Samson, Smokey, Smee, and Brutus. He loved history, reading, and talking one-on-one with his children. David was amazing, patient, sarcastic, quiet, and gentle. He was a generous man who loved the Lord, loved his family, and will be greatly missed
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Appleton Christian Church (2510 I-70 Frontage Rd., Grand Junction, CO 81505). Nothing is expected, but if you choose to give, in lieu of flowers please bring birdseed (to keep feeding his backyard birds that he so enjoyed). For those who wish to offer additional help, donations are gratefully accepted. These contributions will assist the family as they navigate the road ahead.
