David Lynn Person, age 64, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at his home. David was born on October 26, 1956 in Kirksville, MO to Donald L., Sr. and Donna Miller Person. He grew up in the family home in Thornton, CO and was a longtime resident of the Grand Junction Regional Center.
He was preceded in death by his mother Donna L. Snyder, Step-Father Cecil F. Snyder, and his sister, Denise L. Jensma.
Survivors include his father Donald L. Person, Sr. of Gibbs, MO; brothers, Donald Person, Jr. (Robbie) of Sedalia, CO, John Snyder (Terri) of Longmont, CO, and James Snyder (Lacy Bushnell) of Kirksville, MO; sisters, Deiadra Ziolkowski (Casimir) of Custer, SD, Sue Miner (Craig) of Bailey, CO, and Denean Maplesden (Syd) of White City, OR; brother-in-law, Jay Jensma of Sedalia, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
David was the light of our lives. Donald often told people, “My brother is the happiest person I know!” We asked David’s nieces and nephews to share words or phrases that reminded them of Uncle David, here is what they remember:
Ho-Ho! Ho-Ho is coming, Yeah! Good-goods (aka McDonalds). Cccoookie! Ice Cream! Some? (any type of food within eye site or perceived to be in the cupboard or refrigerator), SOME? Nerf wars with Mama! Or anyone who he could chase or be chased by until he was laughing so hard, he couldn’t stand and we all had to sit down and be quiet. Being one of eight siblings there was a time when there was always at least one baby and David always wanted to hold the babies. POW followed closely by UP! ZOOM! As if we were all windup toys. Kikiki-cat. David loved to sneak up to people and scare them or be scared by them, he didn’t really care which! Waaaz uuuup?! Thumbs on his head in his moose impression. Neenie! Sudee! Woohoo! Followed by the wave of an arm to come over here for the telling of secrets and kissing of cheeks. And of course, Mama-Daddy home?
We want to offer our sincere gratitude to the staff of the Grand Junction Regional Center, the place David called home for so many years. From the DC to the resident house and everywhere in between, Jeff and Julia, Charles and Kim, Sal and Sarah, Linda and Sonja, Sean and Alexis, these were just some of David’s many people, so many people and we thank you all. You will always be in our hearts.
A family service will be held privately at a later date.
