Dom was born on December 16, 1968 to Dominick and Jean (neé Millington) Rubbo. He is survived by his soulmate, Clare Prystup; his son, Nicholas Rubbo; and his stepchildren, Chelsea, Gabe, and Hannah Cook. He was a proud “Pops” to his granddaughter, Hibana Quimby, who brought a sense of magic and joy to his life. He is also survived by his mother and father, as well as his sisters Jennifer (Dwight) Weaver, Christine (Tony) Diacont, and Pat Schwarz; as well as two nieces, three nephews, three great-nieces and three great-nephews.
As a child, Dom earned the nickname “Bear” for his curiosity, determination, and playfulness. He loved the great outdoors and carried that same adventurous spirit into adulthood, eventually making his way to Colorado, where he met Clare. Of their nine-year relationship, they spent six wonderful years embracing life as full-time RVers, exploring the country and forming deep, lasting connections along the way. Through these travels, Dom’s sense of family grew far beyond blood relations, extending to friends and fellow travelers.
For much of his career, Dom worked in heavy equipment operation and construction. In later years, he embraced new and unexpected opportunities with enthusiasm and curiosity—from work camping to selling Christmas trees in Florida for two seasons, to even trying his hand at beet farming. He approached every experience with humor and an open heart.
Dom was the kind of person who left an impression wherever he went. He had a warm, easy smile and a generous spirit, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. To know him was to feel welcomed—he truly never met a stranger.
Whether hiking Colorado’s endless trails and canyons to kayaking down rushing rivers, Dom’s fearless energy made him seem almost indestructible. But he loved the simple things in life just as much—grilling a steak, lounging on a beach, or exploring with one of his dogs, whom he affectionately referred to as his “buppies.”
Dom’s legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and connection—he loved deeply, worked hard, and touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him. His spirit and contagious smile will continue to inspire us all.
A private celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages loved ones to take this moment to reflect and make arrangements to protect and provide for those they hold dear.
