
Eileen Jane Mortensen, 95, of Grand Junction, CO, passed away April 19, 2020, in Lakewood, CO. She was born to Gus and Stella (Bohen) Hoefner in Denver, CO, on January 19, 1925. Her previous places of residence include Denver, CO; Pavilion, WY; Fruita, CO; Grand Junction, CO; and Lakewood, CO. She spent her childhood in Denver, and graduated from North High School.
Eileen married Kenneth C. Mortensen on September 7, 1946, in Denver, CO. She worked for the Social Security Administration and was a member of the Catholic Church.
Eileen played the piano and wrote a song “The Rippling River.” Going to Las Vegas to play the slot machines was one her loves. She had a good life, loved her family, and was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and aunt.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Leonard of Fruita, CO, and Ann Mortensen of Lakewood, CO; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Christian Mortensen; sons, Kenneth C. (Kacey) Mortensen and Dennis N. Mortensen; and siblings, Shirley Hale, Jack Hoefner, Billy Hoefner, and Gloria Fetrow.
Graveside services will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction, CO, during the summer of 2020 due to the Coronavirus.
