Eric Todd Bruton was born July 9th, 1964 at Faith Hospital in Collbran, CO to Warren and Bettie Bruton. Eric and his sister, Signa were raised in Mesa, the place he would call home for the rest of his life. Eric married Lori Denton in 1987; together they had two children, Chambry and Brandon. In 2012, Eric married Monica and gained two sons, Danny and Matt.
Eric was raised working cattle with his father and grandfather. At 14, he started working at Powderhorn Ski Resort and rode bikes back down the mountain to Mesa with friends. Eric graduated from Plateau Valley School in 1982. He then continued his employment at Powderhorn where he developed many life-long relationships. He brought home many friends who turned into adopted brothers, much to Signa’s dismay. Eric spent the rest of his life mentoring and helping everyone around him. Always having a heart for service, Eric started volunteering for the Plateau Valley Fire Department in 1985, he then continued for 40 years as a volunteer and later as the Volunteer Fire Chief. Eric also served our county Road and Bridge Department for 22 years progressing to Mesa County Road and Bridge Supervisor before retiring in 2013. Upon retirement he became busier than ever with the ranch, Bruton’s Guide Service and the steady appearance of grandchildren.
Hunting was a passion and a business for Eric as he worked with his father Warren to build a successful guide service. An accomplished bowhunter himself, he had the opportunity to provide hundreds of hunters with many cherished moments, thus creating friendships that span the country, the years and generations. Eric enjoyed providing hunting opportunities to youth and veteran hunters from the community. Eric was the best support anybody could ask for if a friend needed it, and he was as generous with a laugh and a smile as anybody ever could be.
Eric is survived by his wife, Monica, parents Warren and Bettie, sister Signa (Tim) children Chambry (Justin), Brandon (Hannah), Matt (Cassy) and 9 grandchildren. He will be joining his son Danny, and grandparents in heaven.
A grateful family would like to express sincere appreciation to Mita White PA-C, Dr. Jonathan King M.D., Dr. Jonathan Frandsen M.D. and the entire Grand Valley Oncology team for the amazing care and compassion.
A memorial celebration will be held at Molina Baptist Church on March 8th at 11:00 AM. The service will also be streamed on the Molina Baptist Church YouTube Channel.
In lieu of flowers we ask that memorial contributions be made to the organization of your choice in recognition that Eric had many passions and a giving nature.
