He was born on August 24, 1940, to Floyd T. Chandler and Eva B. (Owen) Chandler in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He graduated from Plateau Valley High School in Collbran, Colorado, in 1958.
Red spent his younger years in many states, as his father worked in heavy construction jobs and the family traveled to each new location. He met his high school sweetheart, Wilma Askins, in Glendo, Wyoming, where both of their fathers were working on the same job site. They later married in Oakridge, Oregon, in 1959. Red and Wilma were married for 66 years.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Red built a career as a heavy construction mechanic and welder, contributing to major projects such as Blue Mesa Dam, I-70 through Glenwood Canyon, Hayden Power Plant, Telluride Airport, Ridgeway Reservoir, along with many others throughout Colorado and New Mexico.
He took a short break from construction and opened Monument Jeep Clinic to pursue his passion for repairing and modifying 4WD vehicles.
During retirement, Red enjoyed attending auctions and sharing his mechanical and welding expertise with friends and family.
Red was known for his generosity and strong work ethics. He is preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, and grandson, Thomas Eaton.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma; son, Ed; daughters, Sherry (Curtis) Daniel and Penny Eaton; siblings, Norman (Cheryl) Chandler, Larry Chandler, Carolyn (Larry) Romero, and Marilyn Pearson. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
