Ida Marie Vaughn died peacefully at home on January 11, 2017. Ida Marie was born on her parent’s farm in LaCrosse, Kansas on September 29, 1922 and was the first of four children born to Myrtle and Earl Howell.
Ida Marie and her three siblings, Janet, James and Mary, attended a one-room schoolhouse in Rush County, Kansas and graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1940. She went to Park College in Kansas City, Missouri and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.
On January 22, 1944, Ida Marie married her life-long friend and the love of her life, Robert Vaughn, while he was on leave from the Navy during WWII. After the death of her parents, they ran the family farm until 1953 and then moved to Colorado where they raised their four children – Janna Beth, Peggy, Jack and Roberta.
Ida Marie was a well-loved primary school teacher with a true passion for helping children learn and respect others. In addition to teaching, she enjoyed the outdoors and had a love for animals and nature. She was a wonderful homemaker, mother, wife and respected member of the community.
