Ivan was born in Grand Junction, CO to Ivan Walz and Ella Armstrong-Walz on November 5, 1943. He spent his entire life in the valley and loved everything that it had to offer. His favorite thing to do outdoors was going fishing. Ivan also collected coins and had a vast collection of knives that he was very fond of.
Growing up in Grand Junction, Ivan focused a lot on his family. He worked hard on the family’s ranch and was always supportive to his parents and siblings. Throughout the 80’s and 90’s Ivan became both of his parent’s primary caretaker. He happily provided them with everything they needed while their health was simultaneously declining for several years. He brought them comfort that could not be substituted by anyone else, and his family is very appreciative for all of his love and hard work. He will be sorely missed.
Ivan is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dallas Garner. He is survived by two brothers, Fred Walz of Montrose, CO, and Jim Walz of Grand Junction, CO., and one sister, Phyllis Sturn of Grand Junction, CO. As well as seven nieces and five nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 from 6-8pm at Martin Mortuary. The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 15th, 2011 at Martin Mortuary at 10am with a graveside service to follow at Orchard Mesa Cemetery. A BBQ reception will be held that afternoon at Jim Walz’s home in Orchard Mesa.
