

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at First Church of the Nazarene.
Mr. Walter was interim president of Modern Savings and Loan in Grand Junction.
Survivors include wife Glenda; sons Bob of Grand Junction and Jim of Soldotna, Alaska; daughter Nancy Cross of Kenai, Alaska; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

James Walters
March 30, 1926 - August 27, 2014
James Daniels Walters passed away August 27, 2014, at the age of 88 years old.
He was born March 30, 1926 in Akron, Colorado, to Wilson and Margaret Daniels Walters.
J. D. attended schools in the Grand Junction area and graduated with high honors from Clifton High School in June of 1944. He was granted a scholarship to Mesa Junior College; however, he was immediately drafted into the Army/Air Force.
While stationed at Scott Air Force Base in East Illinois, he visited his sister-in-law, widow of older brother, Billy. Eventually they fell in love and at the end of the war were married in a simple ceremony on December 16, 1945. They moved to Grand Junction in 1947, where two sons and a daughter were born to them.
For 37 years he worked for both Mutual Savings & Loan and Modern Savings & Loan as loan officer, Vice-President and interim President, retiring in 1987.
His enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking care of his yard and garden, but the greatest enjoyment of life was being with his family. He was a life-time member of the Church of the Nazarene, where he served as Sunday school teacher, treasurer, church board member, and faithfully sang in the church choir.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda, of 68 years; loving children, sons, Bob (Geri) Walters of Grand Junction; Jim (Terri) Walters of Soldotna, Alaska, and daughter, Nancy (Corbie) Cross of Kenai, Alaska; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, on the corner of Patterson and 28 Roads, on September 8th at 3:00 p.m.
