Mr. Young was a teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Ellie; two sons, Pete of Brighton and Tim of Westminster; one daughter, Sara Steiner of Grand Junction; two sisters, Sharon Nelson-Young of Castle Rock and Cindy Carpenter of Lakewood; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Jerry Young died peacefully and quietly in his home on January 14, 2016 in Grand Junction, Colorado at the age of 75.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ellie Young; three children, Peter Young (Susan), Sara Steiner, and Timothy Young (Anne); two sisters, Sharon Nelson Young and Cindy Carpenter; ten grandchildren, Derek Mundell, Katie Pearson (Matt), Brittany Schrempp (Cameron), Ciara Suggs, Alex Steiner, Jonathon Young, Emily and Hannah Steiner, Matthew and Calvin Powley-Young; three great grandchildren, Aiden and Cashten Schrempp and Ryleigh Pearson; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his twin brother, Larry Dewey, and his parents, Virgil Young and Florence (Nelson) Young.
Jerry was born on November 30, 1940 in Denver Colorado. He graduated from Palmer High school in Colorado Springs in 1958. Jerry and Ellie married in 1963 in Manzanola, Colorado while attending the University of Denver together; Jerry graduated in 1965 with a B.S in Business Education. Jerry enjoyed a lengthy career in management, beginning with Valspar Corporation and culminating with Adolph Coors Corporation. His tenure with the Adolph Coors Corporation included working with the Coors Brewing Company, Golden Technologies, ACX Technologies, ZeaGen, Inc., and Coors Food Products Company. Although busy with a career, Jerry also completed his Master’s degree in business administration. Jerry retired from Coors in 1996, at which time Jerry and Ellie moved to Grand Junction Colorado. After his formal retirement Jerry discovered a passion for teaching and enjoyed sharing his vast business experience with college students as a professor at Mesa State College/Colorado Mesa University beginning in 1996. He retired from teaching 2014 to dedicate his time to his family and grandchildren.
Jerry was active with both First Methodist Church in Grand Junction and Trinity Methodist Church in Denver Colorado for many years providing insight into business operations and finance to those institutions.
Jerry was passionate about fishing, camping, travel, outdoors, and his love of animals, and especially enjoyed sharing these interests with his family and friends. He cherished every moment at family gatherings and particularly enjoyed his grandchildren, embodying his belief that a Grandfather’s role is to simply love, and to fix things.
A funeral is scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at First United Methodist Church 522 White Avenue, Grand Junction, Colorado. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jerry’s life. In Memorial Contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church of Grand Junction or Roice-Hurst Humane Society, Grand Junction. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Larchwood Inn for their patience in rehabilitative care given to Jerry.
