She was born to Ken and Lovella (Jones) Barhite in Iowa, February 10,1956. Within a year they left the Iowa farming area and Moved to Boulder Colorado with her family where she was raised and grew up out in the country east of town. It is there, on ten acres that her true passion for horses and farm animals grew. There wasn't a horse she didn't love to care for or ride. Showing them in Little Britches Rodeo's in Boulder while growing up, as well as raising some as an adult, even owning two captured past Wild Mustangs for a while. She raised rabbits that she'd show at the Boulder County Fair along with Veterinarian Science Exhibits, winning first place, Champion and Grand Champion Ribbons there and at the State fair.
A true country girl always. She also had a love for dogs and cats that she owned over her entire lifetime. Her other joys were her "green thumb" in gardening, indoor as well as outdoor. She loved being outside, going for daily walks with her dogs, loved Covered Bridges, Old big red barns, collecting Breyer Horses, and reading books. Steven King was her favorite.
But her biggest joy, her life's pride was her son Justin, whom she welcomed into the world in January 1983. Always just the two of them, she shared her love of animals where they lived most of their life in Fruita, Colo. He was her world. With his smile she loved, his artwork on the fridge as a child, and sports he played, to the caring independent man and supportive dad he grew into.
She was a very hard worker. She worked many jobs during her life in Customer Services, waitressing, Service Clerk for gas stations, and in greenhouses, starting when she was 16. She always greeted you with a friendly smile and interesting conversation to all customers.
Even with her health issues over her later years, she was always there to listen and be a friend to many. She had and shared many fond memories of vacations with her sister and family growing up as well as a couple "sister" trips as an adult. Iowa trips to Grandparent's farm and to see cousins, as well as a long trip abroad in 2012 with Lydia were among her favorites and talked often about.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, and her brother Denny Barhite.
She is survived by her son, Justin Barhite, (Samantha, daughter Lena) of Grand Junction, Co, son Michael Barhite of Colorado springs, Sister, Lydia (Mark) Tafoya of Longmont Co, Sister in law Susie Barhite of Blowing Rock, NC, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation is being handled by Martin Mortuary. No services will be held per Jill's wishes, but remembrance cards in Jill's honor will be made available and given.
