Jonathan Douglas Wernke was born February 13th, 2003 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Mark and Caitlin Wernke. He passed away on April 20th, 2022 near Little Park Road in Grand Junction, Colorado while rappelling with friends.
Jonathan called Grand Junction home his entire life. Like his older brothers, Matthew and Kevin, he was homeschooled from grades K–12. His life was defined by his relationship with Christ which made the love and happiness he carried with him infectious. He pursued his love of people, animals, and passion for the outdoors both in his work and play. Jonathan took immense joy in serving customers at Chow Down and Safeway and in working for neighbors. He merged work, play, and service as a Mountain Host at Powderhorn and was looking forward to future seasons. Jonathan loved being with other people and sharing activities such as hiking, camping, skiing, pickleball, canyoneering, ultimate frisbee, and card / board games. Above all, Jonathan delighted the most in enjoying God’s creation with others and sharing his loves and passions with friends and family.
Jonathan is survived by his parents Mark and Caitlin, and brothers Matthew and Kevin.
There will be a public service at Redlands Community Church on April 30th at 10:00 am.
