Joseph Leroy Bair, age 92, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, in Grand Junction, Colorado, surrounded by the love of his family.
Joseph was born on March 8, 1933, in Alpine, Utah, to Joseph LeRoy Bair and Lila Isabella Healey Bair. The last of seven children, he grew up with the hardships of western life and losing his mother at the age of 10. He spent many of his early years doing family jobs at farms and ranches in Utah, Montana, Canada, and Oregon.
A man of faith, he was baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of eight and remained a lifelong member, drawing strength from his beliefs.
On August 28, 1954, Joseph married the love of his life, Christine Lindsay, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Together, they built a family rooted in love, resilience, and devotion. They raised seven children and created a legacy that now extends across generations.
Joseph was a hardworking and devoted provider. His life reflected both dedication to his family and commitment to his values. He enjoyed outdoor time spent with family.
He served honorably in the Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. He worked as a heavy equipment operator, a horse wrangler, a coal miner, and maintenance technician.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph LeRoy and Lila Isabella and all of his siblings, his daughter Michelle Rose Bair; daughter-in-law Irma Rachelle Smith; and grandson Levi Golden Bair.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Christine Lindsay Bair, and their children: Louise E. Bair (Britt Gibson) of Santee, CA; son-in-law Fred Jarvis (widower of Michelle Bair) of Grand Junction, CO; Joseph E. Bair (Debra Copp) of Silt, CO; Michael G. Bair (Irma Rachelle Smith – deceased); Bruce L. Bair (Camille Susanna Czech) of Paonia, CO; Carter R. Bair (Sara Annette Barney) of Grand Junction, CO; and Jay J. Bair (Julisa Cabrera) of Dixon, CA. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren (including four step-grandchildren) and 29 great-grandchildren (including four step-great-grandchildren).
Joseph’s life was a testament to faith, family, and perseverance. His legacy will live on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to know him.
Funeral services will be held at the Alpine Utah Ward, 165 N 100 E, Alpine, Utah, on 9/20/2025. Viewing at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m., interment at Alpine City Cemetery at noon, followed by a family luncheon at the church.
