

Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, with interment at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
Mr. Salazar was an artist.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, George T. and John J., both of Grand Junction; five daughters, Joan M. Sutula of Colorado Springs, Barb Vezakis, Marti Mason and Rita Dickerson, all of Grand Junction, and Rose Salazar White of Lincoln, Nebraska; two sisters, Maria Escobar and Vangie Guzman, both of Greeley; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Joseph ""Joe"" Olojio Salazar passed away June 20, 2014. Joseph spent his last remaining days at Hope West Hospice Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was 89 years old. Joe was born on September 3, 1924 in Denver, Colorado and lived most of his childhood in Questa, New Mexico. He married Mary E. Herrera November 23, 1947 at Saint Joseph""s Catholic Church in Grand Junction. After a very successful 20 year career with Cochran Outdoor Advertising Sign Company, he started his own business in 1963, Salazar Sign Company. An accomplished entrepreneur, skilled artist, illustrator and painter, Joe retired from his sign business after 26 years in 1989. He enjoyed many hobbies and was a self-taught musician, who played the harmonica and guitar. He enjoyed fishing at Kannah Creek near the Grand Mesa, dancing, listening to country western music, gardening and his wife Mary's excellent home cooking. Joe and Mary were active members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and sang in the Mariachi choir. Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Maria Tiodorita R. Santistevan, father, John Salazar, step father, Severo Santistevan, sister De Luvina (Lube) Damian, brothers Pete, Arthur and Robert Santistevan and a grandson John Salazar. He is survived by two sisters, Maria (Ursinĩa) Escobar and Vangie Guzman of Greeley, Colorado. Joe is also survived by his loving wife Mary and their children and spouses, John and Susan Salazar, Don and Joan Sutula, Howard and Marti Mason, Robert and Rita Dickerson, George and Bev Salazar, Rose Salazar White, Barbara and James Vezakis, 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A viewing will be at 6:00pm and a Rosary at 7:00pm at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. A 10:00am Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow.
