

On Thursday, March 04, 2021, Joseph “Joey” Gregory Rubalcaba, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, coach and friend to so many, passed away suddenly after a lengthy batter with Wegener’s granulomatosis complicated by COVID, at the age of 54. Joey was born October 21, 1966 in Delta, Colorado to Joe and Marge Rubalcaba.
Joey attended Grand Junction High School, where he played football and baseball and was an outstanding ace left-handed pitcher. He was a member of Gene Taylor’s American Legion baseball team. After graduating from Grand Junction High School, he received a baseball scholarship to play at Pima College in Arizona. He received his Bachelors of Business degree from Mesa State College. He owned and operated a successful business for over 20 years. He actively helped raise his two children, Megan and Brandon, whom he adored. On May 17, 2019, he married Dawn, the love of his life and soulmate, and gained a loving daughter, Mikaela.
Joey was very active in the community and donated thousands of hours coaching for 28 years, which impacted the lives of hundreds of youths. He was a hardworking man who was completely selfless. Providing for his family was always the most important objective in his life.
He was devoted to his children and enjoyed the opportunities he had to travel with and coach Megan and Brandon for their sporting events. He was so proud of Megan and Brandon for their many talents and accomplishments. He cherished every moment he spent with them. Mikaela and Joey had a special bond which included much humor and laughter.
Joey’s interests included competitive fast pitch softball, golf, rafting, recreational volleyball and family camp trips. His storytelling was unmatchable and would have everyone rolling, the longer he went, the bigger the stories became. His smile and laughter would permeate a room and were infectious. He had a genuine heart that touched all who came into his path.
Although Joey’s time here on earth was cut short, he lived life to the fullest. Joey had a deep faith and love for God.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn; her daughter, Mikaela; his children, Megan and Brandon; his parents, Joe and Marge Rubalcaba; two brothers, Matt (Beth) and Gerald (Gaynell); and many nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins who will miss him dearly.
The Rosary will be held at Callahan Edfast Mortuary on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 6:00 PM and the Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 10:30 AM.
