Joyce was born on July 8, 1946, in Gary, Indiana, to Bernice and Charles Danner. She is survived by her four children, Darlene Wallace, Carol Wallace, Cheryl Sellie, and Kenneth A. Malone Jr.
Joyce is also survived by her grandchildren, David Graham, Crystal Ballinger, Steven Graham, and Vincent McDowell Jr.; and six great-grandchildren. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Mindy Glaser, who passed in 2022.
As a child, Mom would take cold charcoals from the burnt-out fire and use them as chalk to draw pictures onto rocks, or whatever she could find. (She had no chalk or crayons). She was creative and a wonderful artist, this was her passion. She was a lovely storyteller with a wild sense of humor. She enjoyed teaching art techniques to her friends and family. Joy taught her children and grandchildren many life skills such as cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting, drawing, and painting. Everything she taught was handmade. She had a southern soul with a spicy attitude. She knew how to make anything that was ordinary special. Joy knew how to appreciate the simple things in life. From popcorn night to making doughnuts, she was the true essence of “Joy”, and her name was fitting.
She was known to most as Grandma Joy, and Mema to a few great-grandchildren. She spent most of her last years living in her beloved community of Cedaredge, Colorado. She spent much of her time painting and crafting for her favorite event, Apple Fest. Joy had a huge heart and would want to let her community know how much she loved them. She also loved spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren teaching them fun artsy stuff and was adored by them. Joy also loved her animal dearly and spending time swinging on her front porch where she would greet everyone that walked by.
There will not be a memorial service at this time. However, we will be having a celebration of Joy’s life later this year.
